World Book Day

On Thursday 5th March 2020, Queen Victoria Primary School celebrated ‘World Book Day’.  Children wore their pyjamas to school as the theme this year was all about ‘bedtime stories’.  Lots of the children decided to bring their favourite books and staff focused on different books throughout the school day.

In Year 1, the children focused on the text ‘The Tiger Who Came To Tea’ by Judith Kerr.  All of the staff dressed up as a character from the book – we even had a Milkman! The children did a variety of activities including: retelling and ordering the story through writing, practical maths; which included adding up a shopping list and finally creating tigers through different art forms.  The day finished off with their very own tea party from a very special visitor with cakes and a drink too!  The staff and children really enjoyed a fantastic day of learning based around a wonderful book.

World Book Day proved to be a very special day for the school and really allowed the children to ‘read for pleasure’ and share likes and dislikes of books.  It is worth mentioning that books and reading are so important to all of the children here at Queen Victoria.  Please make sure you read at home with them as often as you can as it really does help them learn in every subject, not just in reading!  Thank you for your continued support in this.
