School Days 27th April - 1st May 2020

This week we were lucky enough to have received a postcard from the author Corrinne Averiss, who wrote 'A Dot in the Snow'. Last week the children received a video call from Corrinne who read them her story. She has requested QV write a story about dragons (her daughters favourite) and if we send it to her, she will video herself reading it to her daughter! We rose to the challenge and the children have enjoyed getting started on their story along with illustrations.

After this the children moved onto creating dragons with lego and colouring in dragons hoping they will be used as illustrations for our book!

The children designed their own dragons and made paper chain dragons for our book display. We wrote to the author Corrinne to say how we had happily accepted her challenge of writing a story.

The children have now finished their story for Corrinne, have written the blurb and designed the front cover, amazing job!

The title of our story is 'Mr Trumps A Lot and His Gassy Adventure.

During the second half of the week the children have been working in the Queen Vic garden. They started off by creating seed bombs! The children have been making two types today, one made out of clay and the other out of paper 'mush'. Both drying out before being used outdoors.

We have also been bringing the outside in  - creating sunflowers by  using our weaving skills.

Monet has been in the house today, with a range of water lilies and sunflowers taking shape, with the pastels and glue covered green tissue paper!

As well as being creative, we have been looking at the science behind how plants grow and reproduce.

The children started working on the Queen Vic allotment, with lots of weeding,  tidying, planting and hanging of bird feeders etc... It has been fantastic to see the transformation of this overgrown area to an organised, and fun place to be.

Our very own Mary Berrys have been supporting our up and coming Bake Off stars with their cinnamon snail baked creations. They look, smell and will hopefully taste gorgeous. We all hoped - to no avail, that Mrs Duffield would have baked a few herself for the staff to sample - next time Mrs D!

As well as our country garden, we also have a beautifully cultivated Fairy Garden, which the older children completed this afternoon - looks magical.
